Today I found Ken Hermann’s beautiful photographs of Indian Holy Men, sadhus. Sadhus live lives devoted to spiritual practice, having left behind all material attachments. Millions live in caves, temples and forests all over India and Nepal.
Hermann managed to meet and photograph the sadhus pictured here, despite their withdrawal from the world. The portraits are simple and he used studio lights to create images with “a kind of unreal and almost supernatural look that emphasizes the sadhus’ place in the world – a place closer to God.”
